A NEW CRAFT: IRIS FOLDING!

Yeah . . . I know I really needed a new craft to learn, since I have so much spare time and can barely manage the crafts I already do!

BUT . . . . I’ve always been fascinated by Iris Folding, and when my friend Nan said she was teaching whomever wanted to learn it, I jumped at the chance! I’m part of a crafty group up in the Penn Valley/Lake Wildwood area of Northern CA near Grass Valley. Mostly the group just gets together once a month to work on whatever projects of ours we have “percolating” . . . but sometimes, someone teaches us a new skill, too.

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by how fun and relatively easy the iris folding is. I wasn’t sure what to expect . . . but what I got was fun, interesting, and VERY pretty! Here are the two cards I made. The blue on the left is the first card Nan guided us through, using rather thin “iris folding paper”. Great way to learn the technique! The card on the right is made with a patterned paper I brought to class to try a card with all the same paper, and folded pieces. I love how it turned out, too!

Nan is going to be teaching a class for us this fall, at Theresa’s studio on Hughes Rd. in Grass Valley. We don’t have a date yet, or all the details, but I guarantee it will be fun and you’ll easily learn this unique craft! Stay tuned for information on the details to come.

Thanks for looking . . .remember, do something creative every day! Hugs! Janice
