Ya’ Gotta Have Heart . . .

Happy rainy greetings from Northern California! This is a great day to be focusing on hearts, because our hearts here in the Sacramento area are “tired” . . . yes, as badly as we need rain, we’re getting a little tired of it!

If you’re like me, you’ve pretty much got the holidays put away for another year, and you’re ready to move on. I still have a few boxes to sort through and organize, so it will all fit in the spare closet . . . but I’m getting there! And this week, my heart was definitely ready to create some gorgeous hearts . . . . Valentines!

So many of the papercrafting products I use make it really easy to create beautiful cards. It really does all start with the paper, and there is an absolute plethora of gorgeous paper out in the crafting world now. Here’s a card I made yesterday, which is a perfect example!

Isn’t that cardstock absolutely stunning!?! It’s from Prima Marketing, one of my favorite paper suppliers. 95% of the time, when I go to create a new card, I start with the paper I want to use. The Prima artists create gorgeous papers, and this one is accented with copper foil highlights. I decided to pick up on those highlights and used brushed metallic copper paper from Stampin’ Up as my first layer on the front of the card. Then I used that same paper to diecut a pretty bordered heart from Papertrey Ink, one of my favorite companies. The scripted word “love” is a die from The Greetery, another of my most favorite companies. I used Anna Griffin’s metallicpale pink card stock to cut it from. Then I chose some of my “signature” lush rose colored silk ribbon from May Arts Ribbon. If you haven’t discovered them yet, and you love silk, like I do, you’re in for a huge treat! So, once again, this creation is truly eclectic in composition. I love having products from so many different companies and being able to mix and match them depending on the paper I’ve chosen. The blending and mixing of colors is one of my favorite parts of card making, and starting with luscious paper makes that easy!

I topped this card off with a little metallic heart charm I found in my stash. If you love creating elegant, detailed, and mixed media cards, be sure and keep your eyes open for little embellishments like this. I always love to find some little special thing in my stash, to add to a card and make it “one-of-a-kind”. To me, that says to the recipient of the card, “she really put some thought into making this special for me”!! Thrift stores, garage sales, estate sales, and “junk” shops are great places to find these treats!

Hope you enjoyed my first Valentine of 2023. And I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and find time to do a little crafting. Remember . . . . create something every day!! Hearts & hugs . . . . Janice
